wow that looks gorgeous…! i wonder what the reserve is?
interesting turnings, is this standard Britton fare?
Jeff, though hard to see the detail on the eBay auction and Britton’s website, I’d say yes, it looks like the same keywork. I haven’t seen a Britton chanter up close in nearly two years. I wondered more about the bag and bellows… but it does have the same overall appearance.
Bellows are absolutely Tim’s. Bag looks like a Britton bag, though he does outsource for their manufacture.
Keywork looks like Tim’s. The turning looks like a later chanter. Interesting that it’s never been used.

I’ve had a few of Tim’s chanters. ANd this one is pretty much standard. It IS* one of his more recent ones. Which actually can mean during the last 10 years, as Tim spends most of his time playing with Chulra rather than making. The turnings are standard. Tim strives for consistency in his design. That being said, no two chanters are exactly alike, and vary in the actual slope of the curves and with of turning etc (slightly) This particular chanter doesn’t look quite as graceful as some of his other work. But in reality, if you were to do a side by side comparison, the difference would be VERY slight I’m sure.
I have one of his OLDER chanters…If I recall…I bought it about 8 years ago from Kieran O’Hare…I think Kieran was trading it in for one of K. Lynch’s…fully keyed with a wooden top and the old style stop key. I have also recently re-reeded and passed on (sold to a friend) another of Tim’s more recent chanters. The only real difference in the two was (other than age patina) the keys. Tim HAS changed some of his key designs. They are more compact now…his older chanters have more delicate and graceful keywork. He changed the key design because the old keys tended to catch on things and the mount would snap off…which is exactly what had happened to my chanter! Luckily I was able to fix this without too much hassle.
Tim makes incredible instruments…they are waht we would call locally.. “session blasters” If you want to be heard in a session..get one of his concert chanters.
You can’t really go wrong with Tim’s stuff…it always seems to resell well.
Sorry guys…I’ve spent so much time lurking in the dark…I guess my mouth ..er fingers simply runneth over!
Dave
You can second pretty much all that, excepting that his non-ebony/blackwood sets are slightly more mellow. Not quite “session blasters.” I prefer his old keywork.
There’s also a D.Daye Pennychanter setup for sale starting at $150 (buy complete for $350 - not bad for everything).
Dionys
From Tim, regarding the set for sale:
"It appears to be a very recent one made for the seller in Toronto. Despite comments to the cntrary I would describe it as a continued
refinement of the standard design and thusly more graceful. It does incorporate the latest accoustic evolution. All items appear as delivered. I would have posted directly but don’t have the time to figure out how to do that. I have pipes to make!
Tim
p.s. The current price is $2200."
So there you have it.

Not a bad deal . I see a hand stiched leather bag and padded bellows . I like a good large bag , and I like the hand stiching . Bellows to bag connection is nice too . 1800.00 on a good day .
Four hours left in this auction and the bids are $761… reserve hasn’t been met yet. Someone needs to get serious in order to ‘bring home the bacon’
ebay is e bay .

That’s the scary part.
So far, the bids have been conservative. Less than three hours left, high bid is $898.

I hope I did not insinuate that this chanter was by any stretch of the imagination inferior in quality to any of his earlier work! Far from it. I believe I did state very matter of factly that you dimply can’t go wrong with Tim’s sets! Whoever get’s that set will get an EXCELLENT set! Tim’s chanters are, in my opinion, among the very best available!
The bidding closed with 19 bids. The high bid of $1025, not enough to meet the reserve.
