You just catch all the ebays don’t you.

I live in hope of the day when I can actually affoard to bid on something on eBay.

But seriously, it gives people an idea of what’s out there and more importantly, what not out there - such as 4 reg. Froment sets.

$500.00!!??!?

You won’t see any other quality practice set like this go for the same or cheaper, any time soon! Wow.

Don’t get too excited. The reserve isn’t met and there’s 6 days to go.

According to the eBay listing, whose link you have provided for us, the reserve has been met. The current bid is $500.00.

Indeed - the bids were to start at $100, and the one and only bidder (so far) has bid $500, and has either met or possibly exceeded the reserve.

That’s a great deal if it can stay under the radar.

that sure was a low reserve..

Important to note that it’s a Childress chanter… the other parts are not attributed to any particular maker, save the McHarg bag.

The bellows looks Childress to moi.

It could be - tough to tell, though I thought he used a heavy leather hinge on his… I always thought his bellows were pretty sturdy… his site bcpipes.com shows that hinge style, anyway. And that belt… what’s up with that?

I think that the 70’s style belt may have been added by the owner for reasons of comfort… I have done the same with my bellows:

Here’s a picture of one of Bruce’s bellows, mind you it isn’t the underside…

… as pictured here:

But the arm belt and buckle seem identical.

Sure enough.

I wonder why the seller didn’t just say that it was BC set, rather than specifically saying the chanter?

Ah, well - still a steal at $500, IMO.

I’m tempted, but I really do not need another D chanter.

Does anyone know the seller? ZERO points on eBAY is a good time to verify everything before proceeding. If you are thinking of bidding, you might contact the seller by phone.

Curious… So who won the bid? You would think I would remember a cocobolo chanter with maple mounts… Like I do one of those every month!
I would be interested in knowing the year stamped on the chanter (provided I was doing that when this particular chanter was made). The whole set looks like my make, including the bellows. Although, this was before I started putting pads on the bellows by default. By the look of them, I would be suprized if they aren’t mine. When I get a good plank of cherry, I leave the bellows cheeks natural. When I am using poplar (Cherry or Poplar because I like the way they take nails) I stain them black. When I stain them, I get requests not to. When I don’t, I get requests to stain them.
The waist belt (if, by a probability of about 95%, I made the bellows) is a replacement. Pretty cool buckle.

I don’t know the buyer but for $960, they’re certainly a happy camper (or piper).
