That’s a Galloway set, I’m fairly sure. Chanter is holly, which is interesting.

Yes, It’s definitely a Galloway set. Confirmed by the link on Gordon’s site here http://www.gallowaypipes.com/page6.htm.

I own a full set in holly from Gordon and I have to say that the tone and volume from the chanter is quite amazing. Having played other holly chanters they were always a bit quiet. This one isn’t.

Geantraí - 26/12/09 has Liam O’Flynn and Arty McGlynn at about minute 40.

Direct link, please.

EDITED - OK, I found it.

The singer with accordion after the break, Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhride, plays a new set of Galloway pipes, too.

Unfortunately the sound is not the best. In the second piece with Liam O’Flynn his pipes drown out Matt Molloy’s flute.

Yes, in the future, live link please. I’m still trying to find this by digging through their site.

I’ve not been able to figure out how to post a live link to their sites. It’s easier to give the main website (www.tg4.tv) and then directions from there (usually Ceol-Cartlann and the name and date of the program). If you can’t figure out how to follow those directions, then you don’t deserve to watch the programs!!!

Yeah, thanks Dad! Found it.

Aside, in the US and the UK (other places?) you cannot show people drinking actual booze on the air. You can only use an alcohol-free substitute. The way Ciaran reaches for that pint with such gusto (a just reward for some lovely playing!) I’m thinking this law does not apply to this type of broadcast.

I’m surprised to hear this about the UK (not the US - obviously the FCC strikes again). I’m sure I’ve seen cookery programs in the UK where the chef takes a glass of wine from time to time.

hi, jon, i had as look at your galloway set at the nwup a bit ago. they sounded great but the chanter was breaking on the back D. have you fixed or replaced the reed now. silly question but are you pleased with them?
i have a galloway ebony chanter which sounds great, lots of waft (GHB player too so like loud pipes). the reed has taken 3 months to play in but is worth the effort.

Yep, they’ve settled in now, chanter is bang on. No complaints at all (other than waiting for more keys to be added). Regs a bit haywire at the moment but I’m putting that down to the weather.

Thoroughly recommend them ( Trying not to rub salt in the wounds here).

I’ll try and get over to NWUP again with them, just need the dates.
