Tech Advice: mp3s from DVD?

Anyone know if it’s possible to convert the audio from a DVD to mp3?

Specifically: I have the Planxty 2004 concert DVD, and would like to be able to have the tunes on my iPod. I’m not at home, or I’d just throw the DVD in my DVD drive and see what happens; knowing in advance whether it can be done, or if there are any tricks to it, would be nice, though.

So: sage advice?

Thanks in advance.

There is software that can do it, but you’d have all the stage talk and audience noise. You’d have to edit all that out. Fortunately, they have already produced a CD of the show as well as the DVD to save you the trouble.

djm

Simple way is to run a cord from the audio out on the TV or DVD player into the audio in on your computer. Usually it’s the Line Out/In you’d want.

Of course that still leaves:

And djm is right. The cheapest software is Goldwave. It’s also very easy to use. It can also be used to record the sound coming in to the computer in mp3 format. Then divide up the file, and presto, you have it!

There is other software that will allow you to do this with the DVD in your computer, but I don’t have any of it.

I thought for sure that Windows Media Player 9 could convert them. I’ll have to double check that when I get home.
