I happened to tune into Ovation last night, and saw two half hour programs titled ‘Transatlantic Sessions’, that was lovely music played in very homey settings. There were clips of different groups of players and singers doing very eclectic music with each other, from blues to laments, mostly vocals but with a smattering of instrumental. I tried to catch names of the 15 or so artists, but only got a handful.
Emmylou Harris, Nancy Griffith, Dougie Maclean, Jay Unger, Molly Mason, Michael (?) Doucet. I didn’t catch most of the Irish and Scottish players, but there was a low whistle there (unknown origin) and uillean pipes.
Ovation is a constant source of delight to me. If you have a chance to tune into the station, please do! Wonderful art channel that I would change cable providers to get access to. I’m pretty much a ‘nature and art’ TV person, and put this station at the top of my list!
