"Flutes and Whistles" on Thistle and Shamrock

Many of you probably already listen to this, but this week’s “Thistle and Shamrock” on NPR promises to be really interesting. Here’s the description on the website at
http://www.npr.org/programs/thistle/index.html

August 4 | Week 31/Show #1158
Flute and Whistle
The flute may be the closest any instrument comes to reproducing the expressions of the human voice. It is the music of breathing. Chris Norman, Cathal McConnell, Lunasa, Claire Mann and more play Celtic flute and whistle for us this week.

My local station named Joanie Madden among others.

Sounds like it will be good.

Wow, I was just about to post about this!
I’ll be out of town on Sun (when our local station plays Thistle&Shamrock),
so I’ll have to find a station with a live stream that plays it earlier in the week.

Thistle and Shamrock is a Saturday show in many places. Hope you get to hear this.

I used to have a massive crush on Fiona Ritchie. But then I saw this:

Caption: Fiona on bodhran with Doug Orr’s band at the Latta Folk Festival near Charlotte, NC, in the mid-1980s.

Oh, Fiona, how could you?

Roger

Sigh. My local NPR station (WUOM) is all of a sudden off the air, so no Thistle and Shamrock for me! If anyone ends up with a recording of the program that they’d be willing to share, I’d be much indebted! I wasn’t able to find an archive of old T & S shows in my (admittedly brief) search.

Try finding a station online that has it. You still might be able to catch today or Sunday.

You might try this link at 5:00 pm Sunday.

Thanks, Ron!

Can you imagine? My two local NPR stations do not carry this??? What’s wrong with these people?

Probably just as well . . . I don’t have a stereo . . . . . . I’d have to listen in the car!

I’ve just finished listening to it. Lovely playing.

If you go to this link, you should be able to find a station to listen to online. Just try the listings for different states until you find one whose schedule matches when you can listen:

Best wishes,

Thanks, all. I was mostly hoping to hear it “analog”, since streaming broadcasts’ quality is often (always?) poor. But I’m overdue for another CD spending spree, anyway!
