Since I’m playing the pipes exclusively now and need some cash flow as well, I’m offering up this great flute. I got it a little while back thinking I’d play flute again to have something for sessions (I play flat pitch pipes) as I’m neither playing in sessions nor straying from the pipes…it’s going.
A Rudall Carte copy in delrin by Paddy Ward. This is a splendid flute by Paddy, his older work was nice, but this newer flute is really incredible! The workmanship is meticulous with perfectly finished toneholes and embouchure. It plays and sounds like wood more than any delrin flute I’ve ever seen/played. It is responsive, slender, and elegant, and comes with a deluxe fitted Venus hard case. The crown piece is actually Blackwood, and it has a tuning slide and rings.
I paid Doc Jones $849 for the flute, but to do my part to help the consumer price index, I’m asking $700. PM if interested, I also have photos I can send to any interested parties.
Ok…I’ve been convinced to reconsider! I had a visit from a couple of great musicians from Ireland the other night (fiddle and concertina). I played the pipes at first (fiddle tuned down and 'tina played in C). We had some great sets. Then they talked me into getting out the flute. We ended up playing a ton of tunes (the pipes really ARE better solo or in duet w/fiddle) and they really liked my flute playing. I liked it too…I guess I’ll keep it as my embouchure and technique seems to be weathering the gaps.
I haven’t been there in at least a year myself. I grew to prefer the home setting, whether a small house session or playing with a fiddler. Just my taste evolving I guess. The vibe changed there too a bit for me. Plus it’s a bit of a schlep now for someone who hates driving more than 15 minutes! If I still lived in Portland I’d probably still go, just not as often.
