PADDY WARD RUDALL, ROSE AND CARTE

Hi all,

I have just taken delivery of my Ward Rudall,Rose and Carte keyless, its my first custom built flute, and Paddy was a great guy to work with, he really knows his stuff, it took slightly longer to make, but this was down to the fact that Paddy wouldn’t let the flute out until it was spot on, I sold my Ward Hawkes copy, after playing a Friends Rudall ( Ormiston ), and although it was difficult to get my embouchure right on the Ormiston, I new all the notes were there because my friend plays a mean flute, the Ward does need a more focused embouchure and bottom D can be a bit hit and miss, but when you get it right its great, the flute in principle is a copy of Paddys original Rudall,Rose and Carte flute, but has been designed with a single section mid-piece with the holes in, tuning slide, lined head joint, and foot joint with the redudant holes.

the only downside of the whole process and this has nothing to do with Paddy was the MUPPETS at Uk customs and Excise, they held the flute over as there were charges, they also opened the packaged, then they stuck it on a shelf somewhere, and forgot to send the charges letter out to me, I then contacted them they had a reference number for USPS, that said it had been delivered, BLAH DEE BLAH DEE BLAH, anyway its here now so I will try my best to get some pics up, and maybe some sounds, I have been effectivly fluteless since January, and have been playing with my old Clarke whistle for some time, I know why I migrated to flute now ( my whistle playing is C*~P )

Congrats on the new baby! Give 'un a toot for me. (BTW, I’m working on the Metzler currently - slow progress for now.)

Hi Jem,

I am breaking her in slowly, for anyone that played Paddys Hawkes copy, this Rudall copy is every bit as good craftmanship and sound/tone quality,
it is a very different beast to the Hawkes model, I could play the Hawkes with quite a lazy embouchure, ( and I did ), this has caused me some serious problems, as I have to retrain my lips to get the best out of the Rudall, not that its a bad thing, but it does feel like I am starting from scratch, I have been without flute for some 3 months as well so I am guessing that hasn’t helped, I have read many post were the Rudall or close Rudall copies require a much more focused embouchure and the bottom D can be quite a hide and seek note, so I am back at it with avengence,

SO IF YOU EVER SEE A PADDY WARD RUDALL,ROSE & CARTE FLUTE FOR SALE AND ITS POSTED BY SPONGE ( IGNORE IT )

all the best sponge
