I need to make a political statement at my place of employment and would like very much to learn the referenced tune. It was blown (trumpets and bugles)by the Mexicans just prior to the final assault on the Alamo and means “no quarter or no mercy.” I think it was further referenced in a wonderful John Carpenter B movie, “Assault on Precinct 13.” If anone knows where I can get sheet music and or a quick listen, much appreciated. Thanks. Philo
It’s “Deguello” - entering that in “Jeeves” should get you to a Texas Culture? site where you can at least get a listen to it.
Actually the U is supposed to have eyes (umlaut??) but that’s not needed for search in English.
Sorry, but I can’t help you with the sheet music. The only places I’ve ever heard the piece were in “Davy Crockett,” starring Fess Parker ( towards the end, obviously ), and one of two John Wayne westerns. The two westerns are identical in plot with slightly different characters. One is named “Rio Lobo,” and I can’t remember the name of the other. I think it was in “Rio Lobo” that the BadGuys™ had the cantina band play the song to taunt the GoodGuys™ holed up in the marshall’s office.
Sorry, but that’s the best I can do for you.
There is a midi file of the deguello on the american civil war bugler site listed under ‘resources’.
