I got a call this morning from a customer here at the library which isn’t unusal but the request was!
The request was for the music to a Mexican song/tune but she didn’t know how to spell it and I have never heard of it which is also not unusal.
The customer thinks that it sounds like: ESTRAITTA
I don’t know if it is a popular song, folk ballad, or just the dots alone.
Can any of you who speak Spanish or are familiar with the music help me.

“Estrellita” possibly? That means “little star,” and sounds like it might be the title of a song. I don’t know anything about Mexican music, but I speak a little Spanish.

It was a piece of music written by Ponce in 1929, unfortunately I don’t have the sheet music for it in my collection.

Yes it was by Manuel Ponce. He is famous in guitar circles for his classical guitar music but had this one very big hit song in Mexico. I have seen it in various collections of popular Latin folksongs. I think Mel Bay might publish one. With the right spelling, you will probably locate it quickly.
You might even find it on one of those online sheet music for pay services.
Thanks Weekender. I found it all over the web for sale but after 15 pages nothing for free. My customer wanted it by 1:00 PM today and wanted it free. It is in a Fake book but she wanted the whole thing for piano, just not the melody line.

I noticed that Taco Bell is offering a new dish called the Estraiita Bel Grande. The commercial says “El Gato esta muy grande!” or something like that. I think it has something to do with the fact that they serve Pepsi insted of Coke products. Does that help any?
