Any UP tutors in eastern NC?

I’ve had my practice pipes for over 6 weeks now and I’m getting nowhere. This is complicated by Parkinson’s which limits my driving distance and a wife who is in a wheelchair and can’t travel very far.
I’ve inquired locally and when you mention “Illun pipes” here in Kinston, they think its something you smoke. If I could get my hands on a properly set up chanter for a few minutes, at least I would know how the thing should work. I’ve never seen one of the things in person other than the one I bought.

Well, if you can get yourself to Raleigh, we’ve recently had a dynamite piper move to town, and he teaches as well. PM me if you want an introduction. Cheers,

Rob

Pat D’Arcy is doing one-on-one lessons online.

Tradlessons.com has some tunes but no individual instruction.

Cheers,

Isn’t Pat Sky in NC? Perhaps you could <A TARGET="NEW"HREF="http://www.patricksky.com/">contact him to see exactly where abouts he is.

Pat’s in Spruce Pine, which is a pretty long drive from Kinston (6 hours, or more?) Raleigh would certainly be closer.

Hi Muskrat, there is a piper not far away in Asheville. Contact me via email and I’ll see if I can hook you guys up.

There is also a resource available for you at www.southeastpipersclub.org

We have a Tionol coming up in April in Atlanta and there are folks looking to share rides in one of our forums. This would be a great opportunity to see (and hear) more pipes in one place than you’ll get in a couple of years.

Spruce Pine looks like its in a beautiful area. My wife and I are starting to consider retirement places and the area around Asheville is on our list. If you know of any nice property for sale, or a good realtor I might be coaxed into driving up your way some weekend…I’m always open for playing some tunes and taking a mountain drive in my Mini.

Duh…ok, I’m no longer allowed to post until I’ve had TWO cups of coffee.

Sorry Muskrat, I mis-read the post…hmm Kinston is pretty far over there…I do get to Myrtle Beach about once a year, but not til the fall.

I don’t know of any pipers near you…maybe Virginia/D.C. area might be closer for you.

I’m in the Raleigh area. Have you had any luck finding anyone near enough to Kinston? If not, then PM me about potentially getting together. I’ve been playing for about 8 years, and I feel comfortable helping get someone up and running.

Travis

Ahh, you must be the semi-mythical Travis I’ve heard about! Let’s have a tune sometime. Cheers,

Rob
