I’m looking for a whistle instructor in or around the Greenville NC area (up to an hour or hour and half away). I’d prefer private lessons, and would really like to play by ear (I’m still somewhat scarred from the years of music reading lessons ) I’d have to classify my playing ability as “you blow in the pointy end” but I’m a fast learner.
On a side note, a dulcimer player was giving a presentation to my anthro class and told us that he learned to play when a woman offered him lessons for training her dog. I personaly love the barter system and hate handing over money when a handknit scarf and a few jars of homemade jam serve much better. I was just wondering if these sentiments run deeper in groups that deal with traditional heritage, like whistle players?
I don’t know about any teachers in NC (I think there might or should be some sort of a directory or listing of ITM teachers), but I wanted to say welcome to the forums, hang around, and post often!
Hm. I don’t know of any, but I’m based in Raleigh. I’ll try to ask around but you’d probably
have more luck on the Appalachain side of the state…
That being said, I’d be surprised if there weren’t at least some flute teachers who are music majors
at ECU or UNCW… perhaps one of those knows the whistle, too? You may have to call around…
