Is there anyone in the Nashville, TN area who could help a raw beginner get started? I am currently a GHB piper (don’t hold that against me) and would like to migrate to the UP but I can see I will need some actual one-on-one instruction.
I thought that considering its musical base, there surely was someone in this area.

Nice to see you’ve changed your mind. Only 2 weeks ago when you were trying to sell the Bruce Du Ve half set you’d absolutely no intention of shifting to the uilleann pipes.
What made you see the light?

After thinking it over, this is not that far from where I was with the Highland pipes some five or six years ago. I have always loved the Uilleann music and although I suspect the learning curve will be more difficult than my highland pipes, with a lot of time and some instruction I believe I can learn to play at “some” level.
The thought of “starting over” didn’t set well at first, but anything worth doing requires time and effort. On top of this I was not expecting to find other Uilleann Pipers in my area and I’m pretty sure I cannot do this from a tutorial or manual.
Hopefully I can look to this site and a couple of others for additional information and direction.
In short, when the pipes came out of their box they “scared” the hell out of me, but now I think that with a little (or lot) effort they can be “tamed”.

Fair play to you, if you’ve already identified you need some first hand help and a lot of time and dedication to crack through the first couple of years you should achieve a decent standard.
