I am attempting to compile a preview video of acts which will appear in our Concert Association’s 2011-2012 season, to play in the lobby during the current season. (must…increase…subscriptions…)

Provided on the performance broker’s website are downloadable videos of many of the acts, but in mpeg-2 format. I can play these, using a freeware program I downloaded (they don’t play in quicktime,) but they are not readable by iMovie, hence I cannot make a video with any added graphics, etc.

Does anyone know of a way to convert mpeg-2 files into something readable by iMovie…m4v, for instance? I have something I can use for 2 of the groups, but the third (The Poulenc Trio, a piano, oboe, and bassoon,) doesn’t have anything very useful on youtube or their website, so I’m still trying to figure a way to use the mpeg-2 file.

Thoughts?

I had a check on the Mac forums and they seem to think that you need MPEG Streamclip which is freeware, but this requires you to buy MPEG-2 Playback Component from Apple for it to work.

Looks like a maybe…but I’m getting the idea that one needs Quicktime Pro to actually convert (as opposed to just playing back) the files, so I’m reluctant to shell out for it unless I’m sure I can use them.
