DVD Editting

I have recently replaced my CD burner with a DVD burner so that I may burn both. This burner came with some demos of Nero and PowerDVD. Neither is coherent, nor offer the degree of control I am after (Nero seems particularly lame). I am wondering what others here use to edit video for burning their own DVDs?

I have a DVD that someone made from their home digital camcorder. The sound is poor, in that the performer, who used no mic, is inaudible, although their music comes through okay. Also, the author put all of this into one big file, instead of breaking it out into chapters. And finally, the author originally created this as a DVD+R, discovered it didn’t work on most home DVD players, and had it converted to DVD-R, but was unable to convert the last (best) track, so he sent me an audio CD to capture this. I would like to post a still image (which I have) as a last chapter on the DVD against the CD sound track.

Any ideas what would be the best software for a neophyte such as myself to be able to do all the above and reburn this as a better DVD?

Thx,

djm

Nero Express and Nero Burning ROM will not do chapters and such. Have you tried NeroVision? It’s the component of the Nero 7 package that that I use.

You need good source material in the first place though. It’s better to do all your editing of each chapters in a program made for that purpose. Then construct your DVD with NeroVision.

There are some professional packages that do the whole shebang, but I’m not a video production pro. Perhaps someone else can give you a recommendation.

If you don’t want to spend much money TMPGEnc is hard to beat, good for video editing, conversions and dvd authoring…

I have since been in touch with a professional videographer via PM. He has recommended Sony Vegas, which I am currently pursuing.
