I recently acquired a Dixon Ebony wooden flute, but need to sell it now. Will post more details later (I’m on my lunch break) but I’m asking $350. obo for the flute. Drop me a line if interested. My preference would be to sell to a buyer who can pay via paypal.
Here are some additional details: This flute was made in three secions, headjoint, left hand section, right hand section. There is no tuning slide, just the more simple socket and tenon joint. Due to the unlined headjoint the flute is very light and well balanced, plus the liklihood of cracking is much reduced.
This Dixon flute does not have the usual smallish embouchure style hole hole that most of Tony’s flutes have, rather this flute has a large modern style embouchure hole, and the flute produces very good volume. It’s no prattens mind you, but it is certainly capable of enough volume for all but the loudest sessions.
The flute is in very good, but not perfect condition - there is a small chip out of one of the sockets and, I can only assume due to shrinkage, the rings have been snugged up using the Terry McGee hanky method This was done by a previous owner. Aside from these issues, the flute is in excellent condition, and the tone is very nice indeed - an excellent value, very good bang for the buck, and you won’t feel like a dork walking into your local session with it as it looks and sounds very trad.
Although I’m asking $350., I will entertain offers.
Well, that’s what I was playing Doc (the Dixon), however, and I imagine you’ll appreciate this, my dog needs surgery, so there wasn’t much hesitation on my part, the flute has to go.
