For Sale: Dixon 3-Piece Delrin Irish Flute, with brass rings. I bought this flute new just one month ago. Still in new condition. Plays wonderfully. Smaller finger holes makes for easier playing. Has a very nice tone. Comes with padded case. $195 + shipping. I accept PayPal only. Please PM me if interested. Thank you.
Price was reduced to $165, but I only got a few nibbles.
I am now open to all reasonable offers. Highest reasonable offer takes it. But please don’t make me an offer if you’re not serious about buying it!
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that the Dixon flute is best described as made from black polymer, probably PVC and not Delrin (a trademark polymer), not that it makes much difference, IMO. I actually like the feel of the black European PVC better than Delrin.
Dixon does describe the flute as “polymer”. I have three of them which I lend to beginners to try the flute. The material is as much like delrin as any material I have turned for whistles and flutes - maybe it’s celcon, a generic acetal or polypenco, etc. It does not behave like PVC or ABS on the buffing wheel but more liker delrin which handles heat well. That is opposed to what you find in an M&E flute and I’ve buffed a few of those as well. But who really knows what they are besides Tony Dixon?
One of the Dixons I own came from Jon C. Jon made a second head for the flute with a tuning slide (probably one of Jon’s earliest efforts). Jon made the head from delrin as far as I know and it is a match for the rest of the flute. What say you, Jon?
