Thanks to Chiff & Fipple members

Members of this group have been great getting me started making and playing whistles, answering question after question. I really appreciate it. Though I’m a long way from making high quality whistles, and even further from being a really good player, I thought I should give you a sample so you’ll know your advice is not being wasted.

The first link is a picture and the second is a sound sample of me playing the same whistle. Keep in mind that I’m a beginning player. But I think I managed the tune well enough to show what the whistle sounds like. It’s 1/2" cpvc and the fipple block is cpvc rod from usplastics.com. The design is Guido’s low tech whistle and I used Daniel Bingamon’s spreadsheet for tone hole placement. While I added a little reverb to the recording, I didn’t use any eq, compression or other affects. I think the recording is reasonably close to the way the whistle actual sounds.

That was lovely.

Looks like a whistle and sounds like a whistle.
You’re playing ain’t half bad . . . pretty good in fact. I love that tune, it has lots of headroom for personal interpretation, your playing is proof of that.

VERY nice! Thanks, Dan.

Looks good, Dan!

I quite liked it! The whistle sounds good, the playing is nice, considering you´re a beginner…keep the stuff a-coming

I think you’ve made Guido’s day …

By any standards, you’ve made a beautiful whistle. And you play it very well.

Bravo, Bravo, Bravo …

Keith.

Yup, Dan, that’s a whistle allright. Very well made and played. Keep at it!

Great, Dan - and can I second your thanks to the helpful board members, including you!

Really nice work Dan.

Nice playing too

Thanks

Nice playing!

It sounded like you were leading into a tune called the South Wind.
