Just wanted to thank everyone on this forum for their insightful reviews and observations, always delivered with a good dose of humour and humility. Because of the things I was able to learn here in a very short period of time, I am now the proud owner of a new Lon Dubh by Pat O’Dwyer, and will soon have a Feadog in brass and a natural tin Sweetone, as well as a 3-piece flute by Doug Tipple.
While time and increased skill might eventually lead me to pursue higher-priced instruments, I feel very good about these choices in terms of offering a good range of timbres and dynamics. I am, in the popular parlance, stoked!
I’ll hop on this thread. Every whistle purchase I’ve made or contemplated in the last few years has been informed by the comments from all of you on this forum.

Price is a very uncertain indicator of a whistle’s quality. A lot of expensive whistles aren’t particularly nice while the few that are indeed better whistles suffer very heavily of the law of diminishing returns. In other words: a twenty fold price increase may only yield a marginal improvement over the cheaper whistle.
