TG4 Video Ceol

Everyone should check this out… what a great resource!

Thomas Johnson posted it to the Uilleann Pipe Mailing List.

http://www.tg4.tv/default.aspx - then click on “Ceol - Cartlann” on the left page menu.

Great stuff!

Patrick.

It’s great alright.
There is some great footage of Willie Clancy on one episode of Come West along the Road (Siar an Bóthar).
Also check the episode from Bunclody. Toward the end there is a young Sean Seery playing a very flamboyant slow air, he looks like a crooner!

Tommy

Actually I meant to say click on Clair Eile - Cartlann

Tommy

Great stuff Patrick. A lot of good listening. They just don’t know how to talk.

its the Blackbird  sometimes called The Royal Blackbird.

What a great resource! Great find.

… but it’s announced as Spalpin a run.

There’s also an interview with Seamus Ennis taken from 1977. Go to Clar Eile - Cartlann and to the episode of Siar an Bóthar of 28/6/06. The interview is 7 minutes 35 seconds in. He’s speaking about collecting songs and sings the Trees. He doesn’t play the pipes but he is wearing them during the interview.

Tommy, where does one find the Willie Clancy footage? Thanks PJ, for the directions to the Seamus Ennis interview.

I know I’m not Tommy but you’ll find Willie Clancy in the episode of Siar an Bothar of 16/07/06 at about 7 minutes. It’s a very funny interview. A short snippet of excellent piping - puts to rest any doubts I had about his reg playing. Is that his Taylor set that he plays?

Thanks again. Mighty stuff on this link indeed! Thanks Padre for bringing it to the fore.

I wish I wasn’t so ignorant so I could understand this. I would love to learn Gaelic.

Keep listening to it. Let the music of the language ring through your ears.

For the precocious foghlaimeoirí out there, this page has a pretty good list of resources:

I am seriously digging the TG4 stuff…It’s good to see TG4 again, although it would be nice if at some point more of the commercials could be done in Irish as well to go along with the program content…

Does anyone know if TG4 still shows things like weird Spanish thrillers and old Roger Corman flicks late at night?

As an aside, if there are any Irish or Scottish Gaelic speakers or learners living in and around Portland, OR (I know there are a few out there!), do get in touch.

Thanks Gregory

I will check into it. I have a program on my computer called “before you know it”. But it just gives you some common words in Irish.

I looked online for someone to teach me a few years ago. The nearest person I could find was about 60 miles away though. Maybe I will check again.
