Hi all. Since there are quite a few people on here that are in Ireland currently, I thought I’d ask here.
My son & I miss (quite a bit) watching Cúla 4/TG4. Especially (if you’ve seen it, you’d understand) Sponge Bob Squarepants as Gaeilge. TG4 doesn’t sell the Irish language version of their shows (Broadcast versus distribution rights are vastly different, apparently). Are they available in any stores with a Gaeilge language track (they weren’t last time I was there, but I can hope)? Is there anyone over there with a DVD-+r/rw that can contact me privately?
Pretty much any links or contacts would be welcome. You’d think there’d be more available. Especially with the amount of data you can stuff onto a DVD.
If your interested in learning Gaelic (like I have been but haven’t had the time) There’s an international book store in Melbourne that sells books and videos. I can’t think of the name at the moment. But once I do I’ll let you know. I believe they have a website which you can order some of there books from (google and dogile are two good search engins).
Seeing “Sponge Bob Square Pants” in Irish on TG4 was the (television) highlight of my last trip to Ireland. They’ve really done a fabulous job of adapting the voice characterizations and the Irish version of the opening theme song is priceless.

BTW- even with writable DVDs you still have the PAL vs. NTSC format problem (unless you plan to watch the DVDs on your computer).
We’d watch them on the computer, but I wasn’t aware that you’d have a pal/ntsc issue with DVDs as I’d think the codec would take care of that. Then again I don’t know much about DVD codecs, so I could easily be wrong.
Again, though, anyone willing to help? I’d be most appreciative.
God, when I was last in Ireland, the first thing I saw when I turned on the TV was “Teletubbies” in Irish. I was flabbergasted at just how much I understood. The entire program consisted of
“Seall!!!”
“Ha! Ha! Ha!!”
“Uisce! Uisce! Go leor uisce!”
“Aris!!!”
The only thing missing was the magic mushrooms…
Is TG4 still showing “Ros Na Run?” When are the dumb people on that show going to catch onto that evil, conniving pub owner, Tadhg? That dude was seriously bad-ass.
