Sindt Silver D

I managed to get from Doc Jones a Sindt Silver D,
which has just arrived.

First impressions.

The whistlehead appears to be made of delrin or something
like it, it’s in the same shape as the regular Sindt
headpiece. It’s well-made, the blade has been hand
chiseled, apparently.

The tube is silver. The combo of the black whistle head
and the silver tube is very nice.

I haven’t played a regular brass Sindt for a long while,
so I can’t make a comparison.

Anyhow the volume is good and the whistle has
a lovely, pure, silver sound. The C natural appears
to be in tune cross-fingered, mercifully. It’s more
robust half-holed.

The top of the second octave is strong and sweet
without being shrill.

This seems a simple, very lovely instrument.

I didn’t know John ever made an all-plastic mouthpiece.
I’ve seen them in the standard brass/acetal, and there are a limited number of stainless/acetal Sindt mouthpieces in existence.
Oh, and the blade is machined on a mill… I make mine almost exactly the same way, and my earlier mouthpieces could even be mistaken for all-plastic Sindts.
Please post a pic of your whistle… I’d love to see it just because I’ve never seen one like it.

Anyone have a picture?

Terribly sorry, no camera. I’m back in the bronze age here,
or maybe the delrin age.

Yes, the head is delrin, I’ve checked with Doc Jones and
he confirms. There’s what looks like a brass pin through
the head.

I’ve been playing it more (of course) and I think all the more that it’s
a really fine whistle.

Doc had three of these. Sponge got one, I got one,
and Doc kept the third.

Don’t forget, Jim… when you get tired of that ol’ Sindt, I’ll take it off your hands… turns green with envy
