New Sindt Whistles

Just received my Sindt whistles in the mail today, a D/Eb set with silver tubes and a C. I really love the way they sound and play. The whitles play sweetly with just the right amount of chiff, air requirements are moderate to low with a lovely sounding high second octave (not at all screatchy). Volume is moderate which is fine for me. Really nice whistles.

C nat using oxxooo is a sharp but I knew that going in to the deal (John explained to me that he plays the C nat via the half-hole method and has built his whistles for others who play that way and that adjusting the holes would compromise the C sharp and he thought is was more important to have an in-tune C sharp on a D whistle.) He said I could try to blow a bit softer on the C nat to bring it in tune (either that or learn half-holing).

Outstanding craftsmanship and John is about as nice a man as you could possibly want to deal with. A real gentleman.

Yeah, they’re not made for cross-fingering.
You can use 0xxx0x or 0xxxx0 and lower air pressure to
get close. Or you can put the head on a feadog tube to get
the actual crossfingering. The head is the important part!

I find the cross fingered C natural works better on
the silver tubed Sindt d than it seemed to on
the old brass jobbie.

By the way, the silver Sindt d is wonderful.

I love my Sindts, too. I now have a D, C, Bb and A whistle and I play them everyday. Really wonderful whistles, just right on pressure and tone.

You can use 0xxx0x or 0xxxx0 and lower air pressure to
get close.

The fingering oxxxxo is working well. The note is a bit weaker than the others and easier to overblow but it is in tune. It is also a quick transition to the second octave D which seems to work well.

I’ve been playing my new Sindt’s more this morning and I really love these whistles. The sound is very traditional in a high end package. John has done something unique with his whistles IMOHO.

My Sindt Low A is the pearl of my collection - nothing plays the slow airs like it.
