I have a Jon sindt high C the top part of the mouthpiece is made of black anodised metal, not sure if its brass like the rest, then there is the brass sandwich section and finally delrin fipple, I am considering a high D, and have read on all the reviews that the top part of the head, the bit that your inside top lip rests on is made of delrin, just wondering if Jons changed from anodised metal to plastic/delrin any help always appreciated.
Hi Sponge,
I have a C Sindt, too. I absolutely love it. I ordered a High D immediately after receiveing my C whistle. It’s at least a 6 month wait as of last June. My teacher has a Sindt D and it looks identical to my C whistle only smaller. It sounds great too.
I just took out my high D Sindt to check. Seems like the outer part of the mouthpiece is indeed Delrin or some similar plastic, with the brass sandwiched between as you described. It doesn’t feel, taste, or sound like metal (upon plinking it with my key here), anyhow. I really like mine too!
Every Sindt whistle I’ve ever seen looks like the one pictured here</A](http://www.geocities.co.jp/Hollywood/8682/sindtphotos.html">here</A)>.
The outer sleeve of the mouthpiece assembly couldn’t be anodized metal if John still uses a brass pin to fasten everything together.
The outer sleeve is turned down to the final outside diameter after the brass fastening pin is already permanently in place, and any anodizing at that stage would adhere to all the metal parts of the mouthpiece.
Unless John has made significant changes to his design, both the fipple plug and the outer sleeve are made from black acetal.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you could try making yourself a D tube to fit your C head. I’ve done it the other way around with good success. (Although I now play a Burke because the C tube on the D head was too quiet for the stage.)
Thanks guys, just checked my C whistle again, and your right, it is all acetal apart from the brass sandwiched bit, if you look closely it has fine machine lines which give the appearance of a metal type surface, but as gary pointed out this would’nt be possible, as far as price goes I think $100 is the current high D, but as for the wait I’m not sure, I was lucky
enough to get a sterling silver high D from Doc Jones this week, which was $ 150, not sure what his sterling silver version sells for new, but well worth it either way, not sure if its just the tube in sterling silver or wether that extends to the head as opposed to brass, I will let you know when it arrives.
if anyones played a S Silver let me know what you thought, I did have a brass version a year ago, and sold it, I had just started playing whistle and new nothing of half holeing for the C natural, and the cross fingered C nat was weak and a tad sharp, at the time I just thought it was a bad whistle, and not being a member off CF I was all alone in the wilderness of whistledom, but now with this great site for info mistakes are a little
less frequent so thanks again everyone.
