Hi guys,I have just received a high D whistle from John Sindt as have not been able to put it down,this for me is very unusual as I really can have enough of whistle.
From the outset it played like I’d owned it for years,it has a chirpy crisp sound not too loud and very well balance over both octaves.The mouthpiece is a blend of brass and delrin ( I don’t normally like mixed materials) it’s light and plays exactly as a pennywhistle should IMO.
If you are a pennywhistle freek then this IS A MUST.
I don’t know what the price is but I’m sure it’s reasonably affordable.
I will be posting a video clip of this remarkable little whistle this weekend at ,you know where.

John’s whistles are remarkably good and to top it off he’s a really nice guy. I have a C of his which is one of my favorite whistles.
I believe the waiting list is now about 11 months. I agree that mine is my favorite whistle, but I’m sure not everyone would be willing to wait.

I received my third high D from John this week. Had to sell the other two for financial reasons. I think they’re one of the best whistles made. The wait was about 11 months, but it came when he said it would. Just showed up on my porch. He sent the whistle with the bill in the package. He really is a peach, Ann is too. Highly recommended.
I have one in D and in C both used as I didn’t want to wait ans saw some up for sale. I actually like the C a lot more than the D I think the D has too little back pressure, that is my opinion but the sound is so sweet I don’t ahve a better sounding Whsitle.
And I’m glad you did.

No it does not well mine doesn’t.
I am so impressed by the praise for the Sindt that I am tempted to order one, despite the 11 months wait.
One question, however - am I correct in my understanding that one has to half-hole C natural and that cross fingering does not work?
If so, then I am afraid that I am too old in the tooth to learn new tricks. 
Do I have an odd one, then, or is it my ear? Mine seems to cross-finger the C nat pretty well. At least, there isn’t enough problem with it to worry about.. Maybe it’s just me.

The Cnat always sounds weird (way sharp) for what ever fingering te best non half hole method is OXXXOX it is almoast in tune but not quite, I usually just deal with it being a few cents out.
I half hole the Cnat on all my whistles so I didn’t even think about it.

That’s what we’ve been saying all the time, Phil! 
I tried one out back in like 2001 or 2002…the OXXOOO cross fingered c-natural was still way sharp.
I’ve heard they’ve gotten a little better about this, but how much better, I can’t really say.
Oh, well, then I guess it’s not sharp enough to bother me 
I just received one of John’s whistle’s last week; I’m pleased as punch and haven’t put it down, either. The chiff when played at moderate volume and force lends a tone almost like Scottish smallpipes, if that makes any sense. I really like the close balance between octaves in terms of tone and volume. The C Nat 0XX X0X sounds in tune to my ear, just a little veiled. This is no different than any flute or whistle that I have played. At speed, the 0XX 000 is close enough for my ear.

I bought my Sindt two years ago. The crossfingered C is off enough to bother me and I’m not interested in learning to half-hole. So I replaced it with a Feadog brass tube. I had to sand the end of the tube to get the Sindt head on it. The Feadog tube seems to have about the same wall thickness as the Sindt. It sounds GREAT! It’s my favorite whistle next to my Humphrey narrow bore.
It’s a great whistle. The C-nat on my Sindt was far enough off that I replaced the tube with a Humphrey tube, no problems now. I also tried a Feadog tube, but slightly preferred the Humphrey. My only complaint is that it’s more prone to clogging than a cheapie is, probably because of the metal in the fipple.
It takes a little bit of sanding on either the Humphrey or Feadog tubes to get them to fit. I totally don’t understand people who give up on the Sindt because of the C-nat, it’s just too easy to get some fine sandpaper and a different tube and make it work, no specialized tools or contractor’s license needed.
