Thought I might as well broadcast it… Looks like a good one!
Forgot to mention seller is also selling other items at lower prices??

Jon,
That guy is where my new eBayflute® came from.
![]()
I have a little extra info on mine.
It was found in an estate sale Eastbourne, East Sussex.
Thats a little South from London to the coast as the crow flies just about.
I don’t think it traveled any more than 60 miles from its origins until last week.
Anyone interested in buying from this gentleman will get a safe and swift transaction.
This looks virtually identical to my Rudall & Carte #7007, large holes, good volume and intonation across the scale. Someone will be very happy to win this flute.
Matt
This Rudall Carte may be as good as your eBay flute, though you got yours a lot cheaper… We will have to pit it against a RC and see how it does.
It is similar to the one that I model my Rudall after. Better tuning between the upper and lower notes, then the earlier models.
What’s the tuning like on these?
looks like a small holed flute to me.
is it me or does it look a bit rusted?
Wow. What a babe! Even has its grease pot and cleaning rod. Will make someone very happy!
Eilam, I would count the hole size as medium - you’re right they’re not large, but they don’t need to be. These holes look to be about the same as my R&R - pretty much one of Rudall’s basic designs that they kept on making for some reason…
The Hawkes looks good too!
I support Aanvil’s recommendation of the seller - he is a regular dealer and very straightforward and trustworthy.
“Rusted”, Daiv? What’s to rust? The silver needs a clean and polish, that’s all. The dang stuff will tarnish! And excessive inappropriate external oiling followed by neglect can build up a kind of plaque too. That could well be linseed oil deposits on the keys. Not harmful particularly, just a nuisance.
David M, is this one that is already known to you or a new reappearance?
This is a medium holed flute, the small holed Rudall’s would have the F# about 8.4 mm this one is probably in the 10 mm range, more of a normal R&R size.
I think Daiv was joshing about the rust, he is just hoping that everyone won’t bid on it so he can get it! ![]()
I have also got flutes from this seller, he had won in auction in England some of the late/great Andrew Kirby’s flutes.
What’s the tuning like on these?
About like your Byrne was… ![]()
Tuning is pretty good, I have two in my shop right now.
Thanks. I still have the byrne.
you got me! but still, look at all that tarnish. do you REALLY want to polish all of that off? all those trips to the store to buy that silver polish, all those special, polishing clothes you have to buy. jeeze, look! you’re going to have to repad it, too. are you aware that they dont MAKE pads for it anymore? it’s just about firewood, actually… spare parts, really.
OK, guilty of a humour by-pass there - you got me!
You’re right, Daiv, it would be just too much hassle and really hardly worth it. As a confirmed Boehm lover, you wouldn’t want an old stick like that. “Rusty” can also mean “not habituated to regular use”, can’t it? So there’d also be all the tiresome business of playing it in with due care after all that difficult and time-consuming hard work to clean it up… and it might just crack, so where would your money and effort be then? Not to mention getting used yourself to playing a miserably out of tune old thing and learning to lip it in while all your session mates trot out the old stuff about flutes never being in tune, playing sharp up high, etc. You KNOW you don’t want it, let alone need it. Stop trying to talk yourself into it.
Of course, all that said, if anyone is daft enough to buy it, I’d be delighted to overhaul it for them - sort those non-existent pads, do all the polishing etc. and then send it on having had the pleasure of trying it for a bit and seeing how it got on with it’s older brother chez moi.
Are the keys and rings on the Rudall Carte silver?
Has anybody thought to ask?
Or are people just making an assumption?
I have no interest in the flute- I’m just curious.
This is a period when the firm often made some flutes with nickel keys.
It would play as well but not have the cachet (or expense)
of a flute with silver keys.

Looks like nickel to me, it has the greenish brown tinge we all love so much… ![]()
The two in my shop are nickel, so that would follow suit.
Clever dealer, eh?
Most people would assume that a Rudall would have silver keys.
I’ve ebay Q’d him to ask - will report back. FWIW, I think they are probably silver…
