Anybody tried these… now also made for UP. ( these reeds have quite good feedback from GHB players)

I sent then a quick email to get the RedWood uilleann pipes drone reeds measurements before I buy them

  1. Cane outside diameter,
  2. Overall length,
  3. Drone throat hole diameter where the reed seats,
  4. How far reed in drone socket hole wrapped with hemp

I will be getting a set of these RedWood drone reeds when Xavier Boderiou posts them next week.

I got the dimension from Xavier Boderiou if anyone wants to know.

So will update next week when I try reeds in my Rogge set.

I got these measurements from Xavier Boderiou

Outside diameter of reeds (reedseat)

  • tenor : 4.85mm
  • baritone : 5.65mm
  • bass : 5.85mm

Length :

  • tenor : 60mm
  • baritone : 80mm
  • bass : 80mm

The RedWood Uilleann pipes drone reeds have not arrived yet. Will give you more detail measurements when the reeds arrive.

The RedWood drone reeds arrived today Monday 26 November 2012 at around 2 pm Irish Time.

I put extra hemp thread at end of reeds.

Tested reeds in my Andreas Rogge D full Set without chanter.

I also snapped the tongue a few times on all reeds

Moved the metal tip wee bit.

Baritone needed more snapping with tongue as reed was stopping or refuses to sound.

Will play chanter with drones later.
