We have been supplying our pipes fitted with EZEE-DRONE reeds for some time now. They are made by our friends at Pipedreams. Pipedreams are one of the major makers of reeds for the GHP and they have adapted their famous plastic reed for use in uilleann pipes. The reeds are proving an excellent reed for all the climatic changes we have come across over the last two or three years. They are surprisingly easy to adjust over a range of playing pressures used by our customers.
They are of course available from pipedreams but with a waiting time. We can supply sets of EZEE-DRONE reeds from stock with post and packing included in the price for both our own and other makers sets. See our web page www.howardmusic.co.uk for details.
I’ve been using them for several months now. No complaints. They do need adjustments of the rubber bridle to get nice and stable.
I still prefer the sound of cane, but the ease of use has kept me from putting the cane reeds back in the set.
Keep in mind that the sizing may not be compatible with your drone bore. I recall a few people here having issues with the tenor reed being too large. Could you post the diameters of the reeds, I’m sure people would be interested.
had some climate probs. with cane at winter and no sparetime for adjustings. So EZ dronereeds works .. tonality is not so good as cane offcourse, but works.Tenor was so thick for my stockhole that there was no room to play properly , so i used sander to make reedbody slimmer
changed bindings too.Good first aid at wintertime.
