Problem with elderly.com purchase (solved!)

One of my friends decided to learn irish trad/tin whistle and so he purchased two whistles, a nick-plated D generation and a meg C from elderly.com sometime early this February. The whistles have not arrived yet.

He tried to email elderly.com twice over the package status, second just a few days ago (for the first one, I’m not sure. At time this thread was started he did not indicate) , but he received absolutely no reply.

The net total of the purchase was already credited from his bank account. He paid by credit card.

We both live in Singapore.

I hope that you guys can help shed light on this problem. Can anyone give your comments? If you need more details, I’ll get it from him.

Problem solved. Look at my latest post instead. Above text kept for no apparent reasons.

Can you try ringing Elderly by phone? Their live customer service is pretty helpful, I think.

Hope your order didn’t get lost in transit or hung up in customs.

I’ve never had a problem ordering from them, so I don’t know about their problem resolution track record. But Elderly Instruments is a reputable business – my roommate’s mother lives in Michigan, and goes to their large bricks & mortar store whenever she’s in Lansing. So they’re not some shady internet scammers. All of my orders have shipped promptly and arrived safely, but of course there were no customs or international postal complexities to get in the way.

It does seem strange that they haven’t responded to your email. Do you know someone with a good international calling plan, so you could phone them? I know from sad experience that an international call on the wrong phone at the wrong time can be painfully expensive. It wouldn’t do to pay more for the phone call than you spent on the whistles.

I’m sorry you had a bad international web shopping experience. I just want to say that, at least here in the US, it usually works pretty well. I’ve ordered a fair number of CD’s from Ireland, and they’ve all arrived promptly and safely.

I’ve purchased from them before without issue. There could be some unforseen complications related to them shipping overseas but my guess would be as good as yours.

Elderly is a good company. I don’t know what might be the problem with not getting a response to your email, but they’re very dependable, so just keep trying to make contact.

Best wishes,
Jerry

I have ordered two items from Elderly over the last two weeks and things have been fine. They seem outstanding in terms of customer service. Occassionally their emails to me have gone into my spam folder. That maybe happening to you. I hope that helps you. So far I can only say very good things about them.

Perhaps someone here a bit closer to the bricks and mortar location could offer to phone the store directly on behalf of Optakeover and see if they can help sort this out.

I’ve been a customer of Elderly for nearly 40 years and always found them to be quick and reliable. They would be mortified by your experience. There is a disconnect here somewhere.

Sorry to hear about the problem. Since he used a credit card, it might be a good idea to contact the credit card company/bank, let them know the product ordered was never received, and let them handle it. That’s one of the advantages of using a credit card.

Thanks everyone for you help. I’ll forward your advice to my friend, and we’ll see what we can do.

Hi again!

Apparently, I was e-mailed by a representative of elderly.com . He mentioned that he had already taken light of the delivery problem and told me that he had also been trying to e-mail my friend without any reply too! However my friend had just told me he has finally received them at last! He’ll have to re-confrim his shipping address, and I’ll leave him to do that.

In the representative’s e-mail to me, he even quoted my friend’s name! Perhaps he’s the only one to purhase from elderly.com recently…

I did not message elderly.com at all, so either someone from the chiffboard helped us to message elderly.com or the guys at elderly.com must have been following up on this post here. Whoever it is, I thank you very much for your help! I really appreciate it! Also, let me tell you that I was definitely sure elderly.com is a good website, and shipping incidents do happen. I just had to mention about the e-mail problem as it was sure puzzling, having no contact for a few months. So, how far can I say the communication breakdown was the e-mail services’ fault…

Once again, thanks all for your help!
