Irish Flute Store Correspondence

Hi all,

I was wondering if any one has done any business with the Irish Flute Store (this has been editted as I used the name Irish Whistle Store earlier) lately. I hate bringing it up in a forum because any publicity on a forum can effect someone’s business. However, I ordered something off of their website and have not received it and have not had a response to my emails.

Are they on vacation? Any one know why the slow turnaround? I’m just ancy due to the need of the product I ordered for an upcoming perfomance.

Do you mean The Whistle Shop? If so an order I places last Tuesday arrived on Monday, no problems.

If not. Nevermind.

Hey P3, how are you, and how’s the Overton doing for you?

I don’t know who you mean either-there’s the Irishflutestore.com and Thewhistleshop.com, and the latter has been having complaints as of late about not answering emails and a busy phone line, as indicated in another post not long ago here.

I also have a backorder there at The Whistle Shop for a Walton’s Mellow D and a whistle pouch, but it says they are still out of stock of the Mellow D on the webpage, so I wasn’t too worried, although it’s been a couple of months I think now. And, as Mr.McD and others have said, they are shipping orders.

Barry, try one of these. They are a great deal, if you don’t mind a quiet whistle. I have several of them.

Thanks, D, I appreciate your input-if you have a couple (oops! several!), then they must be good! I did see your post about them. They seem to be a fine tweaking of the Mellow D, and if I didn’t have one on order, I might have done so. I want to try my own tweaking though!

Besides, I have my sights set on an Impempe D! If I’m going to like any high D, it’s going to be that one!

I took your advice and now I have a Bb coming from him. Which reminds me, do you happen to remember how long it took to get a whistle from South Africa to you once he mailed it? Although I seem to live in a black hole of whistles. It takes longer for whistles to get to me than to anyone else. It’s all happened since I moved last summer. Anyway, I’m chomping at the bit to get that Impempe Bb!

If Ian has them in stock, he says it usually takes about a week or two to the US. I imagine customs can hold such things up sometimes too. Whatever time it takes, it will be worth the wait, believe me!

Hey Greenspider,

The Overton you sold me is still one of my favorite whistles. It is the one I compare all other Overtons to! I had Collin make me a tenor E natural a few months after our transaction, and while it is very good, I wish I could have sent him the one you sent me and said, “Make the E natural as close to this one as you can!”

The store I’m talking about is http://www.irishflutestore.com/. I placed an order, using PayPal and can’t seem to get a response. I ordered a Freeman tweaked Generation C (which seems to be a little harder to come by-may be irishflutestore.com is waiting on a shipment or something).

I’ve been looking for a good soprano C natural (tunable of course), for an upcoming performance. I’ve used a Burke C natural on several recordings, but I often find songs I play with my group will modulate from C to D major, or F to G. I always feel like if I start with the Burke C, then I need to end with the Burke D after the mod (just to keep a consistant timbre-this isn’t ITrad-not as forgiving). For this reason I don’t get to use my Sindts, Humphreys or Generation D’s. I love Burke’s low whistles but his highs aren’t my favorite. So, fat chance of me finding a Sindt C. Humphrey’s waiting list has grown quite a bit since my last order a couple of years ago. So I figured I’d go with a tweaked Gen. C.

So that is my long, sad story of my quest for a more “traditional” sounding sop. C. At this point, I’ll probably be using the Burke since the performance is in a couple of weeks.

I have a Syn C that is really nice. I have a Sindt C also which is a little darker sounding. The Syn is a little brighter and reminds me of an O’Riordan traveller C…It is worth a try

Nate

A Syn whistle might be quickly obtained from Gaelic Crossings shop … or maybe a Black Diamond in C. GC also carries Jerry Freeman Tweaked whistles, too. It might be worth a look, picardy – although I’ve never had very many problems dealing with Doc Jones. The only email of mine that went unanswered was when he was taking bids on an O’Riordan set. I’m not rich and obviously didn’t make the cut.

Judy

Doc Jones is the Irish FLUTE store. This post, I believe was about an Irish WHISTLE store. It might be helpful if we had the address or website so we can know who we’re talking about.

Tyg

Sorry for the confusion everyone. I had mistakenly called it the Irish Whistle Store, when I meant the Irish Flute Store. I corrected the original post.

Yes! It is Dr. Jones’s store. But unfortunately, he isn’t responding to my emails, nor have I received the product I paid for.

I’m not angry or anything like that. I’m just trying to find out if others have had a response from him lately. I really would like to get this whistle soon and I want to know what the hold up may be!

Doc posted this morning…he is about.

Probably one of those technical things out in web land…
You could PM him.

Use PM.

I have nothing but good to say about Doc.

M

Doc’s phenomenal, but he does travel from time to time and it’s a family (likely Doc only) run business.

Do PM him - he’ll respond. I have nothing but good things to say about him.

Eric

I have done loads of business with Doc, and this is not like him. Just give hima couple days I am sure he will come through.

Got ahold of Doc through PM just a while ago. Great guy! I should see my whistle in a couple of days. The issue I believe boiled down to low stock.

In looking for a place online to get a tweaked Gen. C, most places were out of stock. If I remember correctly, the tweak on the C is a little more time consuming. My assumption is that this may be one of the reasons there don’t seem to be as many tweaked C’s in stock.

I tried tweaking a C Feadog once and gave up!

It costs a tad more, but Erle Bartlett’s Black Diamond C is sublime. Gaelic Crossings has 'em. Doc may also.

Sorry for the slow response. I just found out about this thread last night as I’m usually hanging out on the flute or pipes forums.

For some reason, I sometimes can’t email people back and have no way of knowing they didn’t get the message.

Sadly, I may actually be spam. Who’d have guessed? :frowning:

Anyhoo, I always get my PMs and my phone number is on the website. So, feel free to call any time with questions or whatnot.

Thanks too to all for the kind words. The best part of this “business” has been the friendships developed.

Best to all,

Doc

But don’t ask ME how he found out: Isn’t EVERYONE awake at 10:30 pm even though they have to get up at 5am???
