the whistle shop

anyone working in the shop?or knows a friend there?i’ve ordered an Overton LowD.it says it’s out of stock and colin is sending the whistles there in 2 weeks’ time.but when i send an email to the whistle shop, asking whether the whistle is ready or not,it still hasn’t replied(for a few days).i’m kinda worried.does the shop have a good reputation??is it reliable?

Oh yeah, They’re extremely reliable, So reliable in fact that its the only Commercial shop I’ll deal with. Just give em a call..He may not be getting e-mails unless they come through the Order desk address.

Dan

Christina,

you are lucky! The whistle shop and its owner Thom Larson are probably the best address for whistle shopping anywhere. What’s more: usually the wait for an Overton low D is much much longer (about 30 weeks or so). You can’t make a safer deal than this, I’d say.
Happy whistling
Christian

does thom check the emails himself or…??should i send an email to his email address instead to the whistle shop ?

CALL Him..Hit the website and look at the clock. When it matches business hours, hit the phone. He’ll hook you right up.

Tom certainly does have a great name - but there are other websites in the whistle field getting a great name for service and reliability. (I realise I said this myself) but I think it’s true. It wouldn’t be right to suggest that only one website whistle seller is that reliable.

True, Steve. I’ve dealt with Song of the Sea with fantastic results. But they don’t have the selection that The Whistle Shop does.

And there is a certain shop in Ireland that is going above and beyond the call of duty in finding me some CD’s! Looking forward to going to Shannaquay in 97 days!

I always think twice before responding to this type of post, but here it goes anyway…

I respond to email constantly - many people can tell you that they receive email from me as early as 6:00am or as late as 2:00am. If an email is not responded to, it means that I don't have an answer - yet.

In answer to your question Christina, due to dollar value, Colin had to ship to us in multiple shipments. Shipments from overseas can be very unreliable time-wise. We have not received all of our shipments from him yet. We process orders in the order that they are received. In this case, we've had some customers waiting since as early as last August for their whistles, so of course their orders are processed first.

Our original Email to you said that we would let you know as soon as your whistle was available. I'm sorry if that wasn't stated clearly enough.

Thank You, Thom Larson The Whistle Shop

Many of the whistles I own came from there, and I would recommend it without hesitation as an honest and reliable place; I’ve never had a dealing with Thom that wasn’t completely on the level!

The reason I chose to chime in here (even though this has pretty much been universally answered) is that integrity is a pretty valuable quality, and this industry seems to have more than it’s fair share of people who are astonishingly nice!

PS: BTW, my Overton Low D arrived and I am in love. What a truly wonderful whistle. Wow. I have actually carried it to work with me today even though there is no way I can play it here… (I know, I know, don’t tell me  )

I do that all the time with my favorite whistles… (blush).

Oh Man..Sorry didnt mean to imply that any other shops were less than sterling in their business practices. I’m very sorry about that

Guys, isn’t this a requirement for C&F membership and posting. I always assumed that you had to have a whistle within arms reach in order to post here.

As far as carrying favorite whistles around everywhere, well … For the last few weeks, in addition to my favorites, I’ve been carrying a new Sweettone and Pocket Tune Book in my back pack, (bought by the dozen). So when someone says,
“Gee, Lee I love Irish stuff and always wanted to do something like learn to play whistle …” BANG … Gottem.
In the past couple of weeks Since I’ve started totin’em everywhere, I’ve given out 2, the looks people give me makes it well worth it. Craic’s me up.

Hey Lee…I got my pack today along with the CDs…have already played all the way thru the Polka & Waltz tunebooks. I think they are the greatest. Wish you were coming to the NITF. Sorry for the OT here…I’m braindead too. Gm

And Christina…you can’t go wrong with Thom!
