In the new Harry Potter film (the Prisoner of Azkaban) there is a scene where a student in the background is playing a very haunting tune on what looks like a recorder(?) to me. On the soundtrack, I belive this same solo is at the beginning of the ‘Window to the past’ track… Does anyone know how to play this at all on a whistle? Can anyone figure out the notes by ear? I have tried, but failed miserably.
I dont’ remember the specific scene in the movie, but Hedwig’s Theme is used off an on throughout all of the Harry Potter movies. A great, haunting little tune. You can find it here:

Ahh! thank you! I’m not the only one who noticed the boy playing the whistle or was it a recorder?
I wish I could help you with the tune, but I don’t have the soundtrack and I’ve only seen the film once…great film though!!
I’m not sure if it was a whistle or a recorder… It was made out of wood 
I think I’ll have to excercise some patience, because no one seems to know how to play it at all. I think it’s the best tune I’ve ever heard!

It’s interesting how things develop, isn’t it . . . I never would have guessed that the melody I/we have come to associate so closely with Harry Potter in general is called “Hedwig’s Theme.”
It is, without a doubt, the most memorable melody of the films, in my opinion.

Do we really need an excuse to go see it again?
I saw it twice in 16 hours and I’m dying to see it several more times before it goes to DVD (which will be November 23, I hear). What a great movie! Alfonso Cuaron did a wonderful job directing it and getting amazing performances out of the trio. I loved the other two movies, but this one was so much better.
I wish I could help you with that tune, but I don’t have a clue. I’m not good at the playing by ear thing. Good luck!
