Hey I just saw a few people posting that they plan on making a trek down to their local movie theatre to see The Two Towers. Does ayone know who plays the tin whistle on the soundtrack to The Fellowship of the Ring on the song “Concerning Hobbits?” What kind of whistle is it?
Did you have to reopen that can of worms? After the Ressikan Flute, no other question has generated more discussion with less result. And to make matters worse, the player is not listed in the credits of teh DVD or soundtrack.
My personal belief is that it isn’t a whistle, but is instead a flute and/or piccolo.
My gatherings from the alst few threads on this topic were that it is probably not a whistle. It’s most likely a recorder although a flute/whistle player living in Oz is said to have contributed to the soundtrack which means it could be a flute.
Cheers,
Aaron
Ask ChrisLaughlin…he’ll be happy to tell you, once again: “People, it’s a freakin’ recorder!” ![]()
Supposedly it is a recorder, I forget who played it. You can use the “search” function at the top right of this screen to search for threads like “LOTR pennywhistle” and the like. It’s been discussed lots…popular subject. Enjoy!
Oh, by the way…Joanie Madden told me that she recorded 7.5 minutes with a symphony orchestra for The Two Towers’ soundtrack. So I guess we know for sure on #2.
::sending calm vibes Kim’s way:: Hang in there!! Not that much longer now… ![]()

must I really wait a whole couple of weeks to avoid the crowds???
Andrea:
My older son and I will go to the first show on New Year’s Day. We did that last year and it was great - quiet and uncrowded.
I think hangovers prevent the crowd. Since neither of us drink (he’s only 13 and I’ve already had my lifetime’s quota of the stuff) that isn’t a problem for us.
Between getting ready for Christmas, having the kids home from school, visiting all the reasonably close friends and relatives and shoveling snow, the next two weeks will pass fast enough.
What a great idea. I’ll have to think about going to see the movie on New Years. If I am up for it…

Thanks for the calm vibes. I’ll let you know when they get here, since so far I’m working myself into a state and I’ll probably need them! LOL
Here’s my plans for the evening.

We’re actually leaving the kids with my PARENTS all night so we can go to this…the first time I’ve ever left them with anyone…they’ve never even had a babysitter.
I bought my tickets over a week ago! Ican’twaitIcan’twaitIcan’twait!!!

I’ll bet it’s really a Ressikan Recorder played by one of the crystal people.
We were going to do that as well on New Years Eve, but alas, one of my daughter’s teacher’s gave us tickets to a special showing at the Gramercy Theater (MOMA)in Manhattan last week. It was fantastic. But we were so wet from walking around in the rain all day and so overwhelmed by the movie itself (great sound system) that I didn’t do anything but note that at some point there was music background that was like a whistle. Oh well, so much for MY reporting expertise.
Regards,
Philo
