Hi, does anyone here have the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack. If so, does anyone know what that whistle is at the start and end of “Concerning Hobbits”? I have looked EVERYWHERE for the name of this whistle and no one knows what it is.
Thnaks!
Chris Laughlin, the phone is for you…have you left for Mexico yet? This is definitely your department! ![]()
Welcome Snowbourn.
Last I heard, the common consensus was that it was a recorder instead of a whistle. You might like to try running a search to see earlier discussions. To do so, use the [Search] function under the New Topic and Post Reply buttons at the top of the page.
Here’s a couple of threads relating to this topic, which I found by running a search.

I actually purchased the sheet music score for the entire soundtrack.
Its written in the key of D and can be easily played with a D flute or low D whistle.
Since it doesnt drop below the initial D above middle C, a recorder is not needed.
my 2 cents.

Since we heard (and if we believe) that Joanie played on that soundtrack, we can bet that it is an O’Riordan or a Burke, and probably an O’Riordan.
I thought we heard that Joannie played on The Two Towers soundtrack, not Fellowship of the Ring?
