The song has a lot of tin whistle in it (I think). I would love to find the music somewhere for the entire song. Does anyone know where I can get it? Is there an arrangment in the key of D?
On the sound track, it’s actually played on a Ressikan oboe in the key of G# minor. There are no transcriptions available for international copyright reasons. The studio has been very aggressive, in cooperation with the RIAA, in suing anyone who plays the tune by ear. I’ve heard that there was a police raid in Oklohoma in which some recorders were seized, but (like many things you hear on the internet), I don’t know if that is true.
Anyway, I’d be very careful in your place.

"Well, I’ve never done this before, so it may be totally wrong. Basically, the capitals are first octave and the lower case is second octave. I’ve tried to indicate with a dash where some (not all) of the musical ties are (either eighth or sixteenth notes) but again, you do need to know the song in order to play it.
In the sheet music, it’s called “In Dreams” (featured in the Breaking of the Fellowship). Hopefully, it’s the piece of music you were asking about! It’s the one I associate with the hobbits!

So her part will be on Return of the King finally? I met her at a concert a couple of years ago, and she said her 7-minute piece she’d recorded she thought might be on “The Two Towers,” but she wasn’t sure. I didn’t hear it on there so I will be listening next week when I see Return of the King.

Yeah, she said that she could have done the whistling for the whole trilogy but didn’t. I met her when she was a guest lecturer in a class of mine at NYU. She’s super nice and super accessible - not at all like “mainstream” celeberties.

You can buy the whole score from Amazon Uk I think and there is a midi of it on the web somewhere. I managed to get hold of it but some of it is in 4 flats. I have the Piano/ Vocal/chords. It’s published by Warner Bros Publications.

Alas, with three small kids I can’t go until Saturday morning. We’ve got tickets for 11am. We’re babysitting my nephew all night Friday night so my 8-month-pregnant sister can go with her husband to see it…it’s their wedding anniversary. Then they will babysit for us the next morning so we can go. I can’t wait!!!
She told me that, too–that they wanted her to do the whistling for all of the movies but she didn’t have time when they needed her. She was very nice and friendly.
