Just curious if anything interesting session-wise is happening in the city of brotherly love this week wednesday or thursday night?
I have checked the sessions forum and saw that there is one in New Jersey. I emailed the link listed for that session and received no reply, so at this point I am not sure whether to bring along an instrument for my otherwise boring business trip or not.
If you are in the know and can offer some advice I would appreciate it. Due to a new baby, I have not been playing in sessions for the past few months and am getting rather itchy to do so.
If you will be around in two weeks, there is a Friday session up here in NJ and the Mandolincafe CBOM (Cittern, Bouzouki, Octave Mandolin) gathering on Saturday and we will be jamming and would like other instruments to be there for that. What NJ session?
There is supposed to be a session at Mitchell’s in Lambertville the first and third Wednesdays, so I think (but not sure) that this Wednesday is out.
However, I have attended the Thursday night session at Three Beans in Haddonfield, and that one is pretty terrific. It’s run by Dennis Gormley and Kathy DeAngelo.
I used to go to the session in Lambertville (over the river from New Hope PA.) It’s run by a local ceili band called The Immortals. Google “Mitchell’s Famous Irish Session” for more info.
It’s a fun session, unless they still have to deal with that one guy with the exotic wooden flute who just plays random counterpoint to everything. He started showing up just as I left, and was still doing it a year later when I came back to visit. I assumed he would either learn some tunes or get told off, but apparently no.
I think next time I visit, and he still there, I’m going to tell him to cut it out—if nobody else wants to piss him off, I can do so with no repercussions now that I’m not there anymore.
