Philadelphia Sessions

I will be going to Philly at the end of this week and I am looking for sessions or just good pubs. I need addresses as well as names.
Thanks for the help.

Well… Let me know what you find, I would be interested in going. (just to have a pint though…

There are several great sessions towards the end of the week.

Thursday night, there is a session at the Glenside pub. This one usually lasts quite a while.

Friday Nights, there is a smoke free session at the Commadore Barry Irish Center. I haven’t made it up to this session yet, but I hear good things about it. I think the last friday of the month, there is a singing session as well

On Sunday afternoon to evening, there are two sessions of note, my favorite is at the Plough and the Stars (2nd & Chestnut (ish, the middle of 2nd North of Chestnut))
John Brennan and John McGillian are the session drivers (94% always there or better). They have a wonderful CD. JB teaches at East Durham. This Session has a very high density of tunes and sets.

The Bards hosts the other big Sunday Session. I have not been there but Hall of Fame Accordian player Kevin McGillian frequents that session. I’ve never made it due to how much I enjoy the Plough in the Stars session, so I can’t be a good judge of that one, but I find it hard to believe you could go wrong with it.

for details on most area sessions. I just noticed a new Saturday Session at a place in Philly on that page. I think all the information you could want is there. Cheers

Thanks for the tip on the Plow and Stars. The session there last Sunday was great. I’ll be there again this comming Sunday with my host, Roger. We’ll be comming in as soon as I get back from the zoo with my niece. Drop on by and I’ll buy you a beer for the great tip. Look for the two old men sittin’ up close, enjoying the tunes. Come on over and introduce yourself, we would be glad to meet you.
