i thinking about going to the Irish Center/Commodore Barry Club (philadelphia) for the session this friday at 9pm. Is there anyone (im sure there is) on this forum that could give me some insight on the session; repetoire, skill level, ect.
Thanks

PC,
Sorry, I was out of town until late last night, or I would have dropped by the Club. How was it?

I had a great time. I’m new to the session seen so theres lots of work to be done. The people were very nice.
Do they have a list of tunes that they commonly play or do you need to have a wide repertoire to participate?
my assumption is that they know a lot of tunes. I was talking to the organizer of the session and he told me that there s a general unwritten list of tunes in the philadelphia area consisting of 200 hundred tunes. My suggestion would be just go there and play the tunes you know and its most likely they will new them as well. Two other things worth mentioning 1) they play alot of fiddle tunes 2) a lot of the songs i played they play differently.
i believe that for the most part they use thesession.org as there main source music but i may be wrong. The people are very welcoming but they harp on session etiquette, as they should.
