Seems nothing completely works on this set, sorta… The Bass drone is not connected to the mainstock (what does that mean, exactly?), two reg reeds are missing, there’s no chanter, and the bellows need to be put together… yet, the seller will play them for you if you call up??? Hmm, sounds dubious, maybe?
Anyone recognize the regs?
Are those Regs made by Mr.Sky? or by other maker?
They look very nice.
According to the ebay description, the drones are Pat’s work…I guess this makes it an 1/4 set…or something. ![]()
At a guess I’d say they look a bit like Alan Ginsberg regulators. It certainly looks like a nice set. Its hard to judge the merits of a set just by drones and regulators. I know thats the bulk of a full set but ideally you should try the body of a set with a chanter that you intend to use with it to get a good feel for it.
Ginsberg had some bad press in the past but I think his stuff is fine nowadays. I met the London piper John Murphy in Thailand last March and his Ginsberg full set was singing! Sounded great.
These days when theres plenty of good makers around, nobody seems to want to pick up bits and pieces of pipes and “build” sets of pipes. I suppose theres no need.
20 years ago there would be a fist fight over the availability of that much of a full set.
Now I’m rambling.

Hard to tell what the value proposition is without knowing the Reserve but it all looks fine, knowing that a bit of work will still be needed to put them in order.
Hey,
Judging from the photos I believe that the drones may be mine. The rest of the pipes are by some other maker…definately not me.
All the best,
Pat

I have some first hand knowledge of these pipes. The regulators were made by a company called Rhythm Industries of Pakistan. The seller of these pipes knows perfectly well where they were made.
The guy that has these pipes for sale bought a used full set of Rhythm pipes last May. He then removed the regulators and used them on another set of pipes. Now they are for sale with a bunch of other odds & ends.
The regulators look pretty good. Don’t know how they sound, but this company makes quite good pipes.
I know there are a lot of people think that ALL Pakistani uilleann pipes are only good for firewood. Like everything else in this world, it’s wrong to tar every product from a country with the same brush. There are some very poor quality pipes made in Pakistan, for sure. But there are also some pipes that might surprise people with their quality and sound.
I happen to own the drones from these Rhythm pipes and they sound great. That’s how I know about these pipes -I bought the rest of the pipes from this guy.

Apologies Mr. Ginsberg. They still look fine though.

I asked the owner about the regs through eBAY. So we’ll see…
