Uilleann Pipe on E-Bay

Hi to all! There is a beatiful full set on e-bay. A friend of mine he like it, but… we have some suspect… the low price…

What do you think?

I’d guess that the price would go up before the auction close. You might write the seller for more information - always helpful to have more knowledge and information before deciding to bid.

wow, that’s a nice set of pipes.

does anyone have any views on it? i’m seriously considering putting in a bid, ie. a serious bid, not £300 or something stupidly low.

This set was offered on eBay a few months back. It didn’t reach the reserve and wasn’t sold. I don’t recall how high the bidding went, but from memory it was not all that high (possibly less than $2000). I do recall that there were one or two other sets (one Ginsberg D full set) being offered on eBay at the same time which might have distracted attention from this one.

The current price is 410 pounds (about US$720) but there seems to be a lot of people watching the sale - at least 7 different bidders so far. There will be lots of bids in the last 2 minutes of this auction.

I used to have a chanter by Ogie Doyle… I used to call it the “mystery chanter”, as I could never determine who’d made it, but then I found out it was himself, and the original reed had been made by Alan Moller.

It was a very nice chanter - nothing particularly fancy about the way it looked, (who cares, anyway, if it sounds good?) and it was a chanter that was very easy to reed.

It’s a pity the seller didn’t offer a better photo of the chanter, though… it’s mostly hidden in the case, behind the regs.

There are more pictures - you have to press the little arrows

If you click on the photo you will be brought to a slideshow. Press the play butt on and away you go.

Patrick.

Yup, tis me

Whatever are the ornamental silver ring things on the tenor reg and chanter? They dont look right…

They seem to be a couple of Claddaugh rings. Interesting…

The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.

I just couldnt bring myself to sell them...and they didnt look like fetching that much anyway..sad or what, i need the money but i`m just too attached to them

It is probably just as well, I mean, what would you pipe with at sessions? Sounds to me like you have a great deal of sentimentality invested into this set, getting rid of it would (for me) seem like selling my child to a science lab for testing… among other hideous attrocities.

The silver ring on the reg is one i gave to my wife years ago but she wont wear silver anymore (she likes gold too much). The gold claddagh ring on the chanter was one she bought me about 10 years ago but the band wore away due to thenature of my work (im a landscape navvy) so rather than just put it in a draw, i stuck it to the top of the chanter. I agree, they look a bit naff but at the time it seemed like a good idea.
