The Kiernan C looks very familiar. South African boxwood/Degame - I guess the mystery is now solved, Davey.

If anyone is interested on bidding on the C, I suggest you ask the seller if the C# is in tune. Mine is slightly flat (possibly due to the addition of a 3rd 8ave D key). I’ve heard that it’s not uncommon with Kiernan C chanters. Apart from that no real problems.

My Kiernan chanter is surprisingly quiet. This gives me more opportunity to practice - particularly at night when the kids are in bed. It is also easy to reed. upiper1971 made me a very nice reed (with a hand-rolled conical staple) following the dimentions for the C reed on Seth Gallagher’s site.

That wood looks exactly like yours PJ..South African boxwood hmmm…?

Did Matt K. spend some time there perhaps? Also, the Bb chanter bottom-end looks like an identical design as yours..

Just a wee heads-up. I emailed the seller and he confirms that the Kiernan Bb chanter being sold does NOT include a chanter top or a reed. It’s being sold as you see it in the pics.

I was wondering about that..maybe Chris D could jimmy something up for it, if you were to buy it.

I’m tempted by the Bb but the uilleann fund is low. AND I’ve got some regulators on the way which will have to be paid for. I’m going to have to resist.

The Ginsberg full set didn’t reach it’s reserve at STG1,551 (approx. US$2,750)

The Kiernan Bb chanter sold for STG158 (approx. US$280)

The Kiernan C chanter sold for STG190 (approx. US$335)

Shoot, almost had the B-flat chanter. Stupid rent held me back from bidding more. :frowning: Oh well, maybe next time. Congrats for whoever nabbed the goods.

I was bidding on the B flat chanter. Almost had it. It is all in the last 30 seconds, or less.

I had a sneaky suspicion that there were a few people watching the chanter auctions and waiting for the final 5 minutes.

I was surprised to see that the Cnat went for more than the Bb - I’d have thought that the Bb was much rarer than the Cnat.

Good luck to the buyers. Are they members of this forum? I hope they have lots of fun with their new chanters.
