The Kiernan C looks very familiar. South African boxwood/Degame - I guess the mystery is now solved, Davey.
If anyone is interested on bidding on the C, I suggest you ask the seller if the C# is in tune. Mine is slightly flat (possibly due to the addition of a 3rd 8ave D key). I’ve heard that it’s not uncommon with Kiernan C chanters. Apart from that no real problems.
My Kiernan chanter is surprisingly quiet. This gives me more opportunity to practice - particularly at night when the kids are in bed. It is also easy to reed. upiper1971 made me a very nice reed (with a hand-rolled conical staple) following the dimentions for the C reed on Seth Gallagher’s site.
Just a wee heads-up. I emailed the seller and he confirms that the Kiernan Bb chanter being sold does NOT include a chanter top or a reed. It’s being sold as you see it in the pics.
I’m tempted by the Bb but the uilleann fund is low. AND I’ve got some regulators on the way which will have to be paid for. I’m going to have to resist.
