At £1000 start price, I think he will be lucky to sell them.

Chanter looks scalloped. The chanter top looks like familiar. I’ve seen that support on the air-intake somewhere before (Galloway?)

The bass drone looks fairly banged up. The resonater in dinstictive. The maker might be identifiable from that.

The fact he mentions Sligo could suggest Charles Roberts, but the drones don’t resemble anything I’ve seen from CR. Ditto from Lambe and Vignoles.

This set has seen more than its share of hard use, by what I can tell from the photos.

They’ll be very lucky if they can 1/2 of what they’re asking for this set.

Old Cillian O’Briein set or Williams?

PD.

Hmm, not if they’re any good!

The bellows are, however, extreeemly ugly IMO. Bag has skin side outside, which is not great… good odds that the bag needs replacing (not going to be very season-able, with the suede side in). The other stuff looks cosmetic, which for the price would not be a big deal… the Big Question is whether the chanter and drones are actually decent sounding and reedable, as the seller infers.

I am nearly positive this is not Cillian’s work, It has a vaguely familiar look but I can’t quite place it.

First time seller/buyer on e-bay as well.

Is the “D” half set on EBAY made by Eugene Lambe as it looks similar to a set Neil Quinlen had for sale in Feb 2006.

They look nothing like my Eugene Lambe drones, unless his design changed.

Cheers,

There’s a resemblance, but the “ivories” don’t match. The tenor drone with the sapwood left on should be a positive ID for this specific set though.

There’s a Steh Gallagher look to the turnings on the ferrules. Early Gallagher set?

PD.

Was Seth making pipes in '92? Maybe Johnny Bourke?

Thomas Johnson says it’s Dave Williams’ work:

It’s a set from Daves first workshop in Newark, Notts, probably made in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s. The drones are just about identical to the drones on my D set made in 1980, and the chanter reminds me a lot of my Bb chanter made in 1982. It’s a very battered, but working set of pipes and could be a good buy for someone. The bellows are not by Dave

Good eye there, Pat
