I asked the seller and he said…
“they were made by Hughes and McLean piper makers who were based in Co. Down. They were made for me back in 1987.”

edit

The original auction received no bids… it’s been relisted and the starting bid dropped from $1,000 to $800. That must have been the trick as it’s got 3 bids already.

Well, 3 bids from the same person.

What’s the point of the same person bidding three times when you’re the only bidder?
J.

The same person could bid a hundred times increasing the bid until the reserve price is met.

Well… first of all it’s Hughes and McLeod (not McLean, and yes Robbie is in County Down - Strangford no less. Am I to believe that if the seller has had them since 1987 that they have never been played?? (maybe the reeds haven’t been played?) Also, Robbie doesn’t ship the reeds in those nice little plastic tubes - not now anyway. They come wrapped up in bubble wrap with a “custom” cardboard boxy thing (that’s how I received mine, anyway, and it was painful to unwrap!).

Why would the seller say they were made in Dublin?

The drones look to have a copper fitting on the stock - does not look Robbie Hughes to me, though I could be wrong. For the record here, Benedict Koehler was quite impressed with the sound of my Hughes chanter (solid back D and nice and crisp throughout) and asked if it was a Hughes reed too, naturally yes. My reeds have a black hemp BTW.

I can’t vouch for the bag or bellows - mine are made in Canada. I’d need more info before I bid.
