I got a new computer and when everything was transferred, I was minus the mIRC thingy that let me into the chat room. Can someone please walk me through getting it set up again so I can grace the room with my presence…uh, I mean, visit with all my old friends…uh, not that they’re old (except Alan), and not that they think of themselves as my friends, maybe more like an acquaintance…anyway, if they’ll let me back in I promise to leave the corn syrup at home (unless specifically asked to bring it along) and, as an added incentive, I have a new collection of lampshades!
I recall having these same problems the first time I had to do this. I’m asked a bunch of questions and need to know what to answer to each:
To add a server (irc.perl.org isn’t an option) I’m asked for
Description:
IRC server:
Group:
If I type irc.perl.org in the server place, it still wants a description and I don’t know what to put there. Anybody have a clue?
Yikes, and I find it’s no longer free–they want $20 after a month’s free trial. I’m not sure I want to talk to everybody THAT bad!
Not for everyone, unfortunately. I know that because I have a Mac, I can’t utilise the “Live Chat” button at all. Luckily I’ve had Ircle (the Mac version of mIRC) on my computer for years and I’ve gotten into chat like that fairly easily. But I’m not sure if this is an exclusively Mac problem or not.
Izzy, you can’t chat from Safari. It looks like its trying to load, but never does. But you can chat from Firefox (a different browser) by clicking on the Live Chat button. I just started chatting again after several years of struggling with IRC programs, which suck. To repeat, Safari never worked.
Interesting..I can get into the chat room from the link above on this page and I am using a Mac iBook G4 at OS 10.4.1. I don’t have all bells etc but it works. If I can’t I use Snak for Macs.
Ahhhhh…so that is the problem. Someone had told me it was a Mac thing quite a while ago, so I just figured it was right when I would try on Safari and it didn’t load (like you said…quite annoying). Thanks for letting me know, and for correcting my error above
I’ve never used the chat room here before, but I just tried entering it on my mac, in Safari, and it seemed to work fine. There was nobody else there, but I was able to type things and it seemed fine. shrugs
Now I’m typing back and forth to myself from Safari and Firefox! I have no life.
