Live Chat Problems?

for some time now, i havent been able to get on to live chat. is there a problem with it?

There was a message on the start dialogue last week that said the server blizzard.pobox.com was being discontinued on 3/23.

Evidently, that message was correct.

Or they have moved someplace else and have not told everyone, like my parents used to do.

:sniffle:

How you doing, Whis? I haven’t seen you in nearly a week.

The message gave the name of the new server, but I didn’t know what to do with it.

Oh, dear. This is dreadful.

Email Rich, he’ll sort it out.

If you want to get onto chat, you have to get on via an IRC program, such as mIRC or a browser add in such as chatzilla (this is what I use).

Chiffy’s server is irc.perl.org and the channel is chiffy.

Download an IRC program, or if you are using Firefox as your browser, get the chatzilla add on.

When you have got the program up and running and set up your identity the commands you need to use are

/server irc.perl.org - to get to chiffy’s host

then

/join #chiffy

to get onto chiffy

If you’ve got Flash (which most people do), I’ve set up a quick and dirty chat room here:
http://www.tinwhistler.com/chat.asp

No need for messing with IRC or anything.

Since it’s flash based, it’ll save your name for you, and you can have an avatar and link to a home page, if you want.

When you first log in, it will assign you a random silly name and avatar. Click your own name (usually at the top of the names list) to change these.

The chat also has a ‘buffer’ like the modem-based chat systems I used in a bygone era . That means when you log in, you can see the last few lines of conversation, even if nobody is left online. In the names list, anyone listed with a red icon is offline, and if they have a green icon, they are online.

I think that about covers the basic use of the chat room

I miss you too Lamby, I hope we can find another place to chat.

what if you use internet explorer instead of firefox, is there another site like chatzilla to use?

I’ve never been able to use the direct chat line from the site since I upgraded to OSX. I have used different chat programs and most don’t work, except an old IRC chat that I use in Classic mode. I don’t know why. I miss the chat pals but it’s just so much trouble to even get on…

I’ve downloaded mIRC. I’m trying to figure it out.

Come help me.

Most excellent! Thank you, Davy! It worked! See you later this week!

Welcome to the mIRC Homepage!
