In case the subject line didn’t tell it all…I received my Sindts today. They were about a month early (they said they would be finished in late August) but I’m not complaining. I ordered a C whistle, an Eb tube, and a A/Bb set. I now have a complete set of Sindts (I had a D Sindt before I ordered the rest of them). I haven’t really gotten a chance to play them yet. I’ll post a review within the next few days. I’m off to lock myself in my room…Wait…I don’t have a lock on my room. Oh well, you get the picture. To all of you who are waiting for Sindts…Hang on there! From the little bit that I’ve played of mine, they’re worth it!
Me, too! A D and an A. This just about does it for my acquisition of D whistles. I’m planning on 2-3 more Thin Weasels in A, G, and possibly E.
My first impresssions on the Sindts: They’re a bit heavier than I’d expected – the barrels are very light and narrow, but the brass in the heads is pretty heavy. (I don’t consider this a drawback.) The D has the expected “traditional,” ie, sort of Generation-like sound, but it’s purer and louder in the upper register. The A is very pure- and sweet-sounding. It’s also probably the easiest A I’ve come across to play – moderate breath requirements, but you can still give it a little push on the lower notes.
Good whistles, and they also came 1-2 months early (which I’d actually expected, given the experiences of other Chiffboarders).
Jay, I’ll never let you play them! I’ll never stop playing them! Seriously though, the next time we meet up, I’ll probably have them with me. Hopefully you can come to the jam again, but if not I’ll bring them to a concert sometime (I’m hoping for Gaelic Storm, Danú, and Dervish…Maybe even Martin Hayes if I can squeeze the money out of my dad).
Charlie, whenever I first played my Sindt D it felt top heavy too. You get used to it, though. I think the A is my favorite of my Sindts so far. My opinion may change as I get to know each whistle more, though. Have fun!
That’s it! I’ve got to see these new Sindts! I’m throwing propriety out the window and attending these concerts whether I’m escorted or not! Heck, maybe I’ll even bring my eldest boy…he’ll be seven at the time!
I think my husband has been expecting a revolt ever since the day before Krispy Kreme opened.
Congrats on the whistles. You deserve them, and I know you have been waiting a LONG time for them. ENJOY.
Kim…where did you hear that line about a whistle woman and crowing hen. My grandma used to always say something about a whistle girl and a crowing hen…and nobody I have ever asked has ever heard of it no knows where it comes from.
I received an A and a D about 6 weeks ago. After playing them for the first time I immediately ordered the Eb, C and Bb. The A is my favorite whistle to date. It’s real easy to slide on which gives it a wonderful bubbly swinging type sound when I want to.
I finally got to the point where I don’t polish them with Brasso anymore and just accept the “patina” as part of their personality.
