Music and CD shops in Boston & Pheonix

Hey folks:

I’m getting ready for whirlwind round-the-world trip. First stops, Boston and Pheonix.
Can anyone tell me where I can find good live TRAD in Boston and Phoenix?

I also want to get some music CDs (TRAD music is not worth pirating in China, where all DVDs and CDs cost about $1). Where is the best shop in Boston? I’ll be in Cambridge actually.

Also, any same info for:

Helsinki?
Stockholm?
Paris?
Munich?

Won’t get to Ireland this trip though. Pity.

thanks!
G

It’s a bit outside Boston (Norwood), but try this:

In Phoenix, you can find a session most every night, if you are so inclined. (The one that I go to is on Wednesday nights, in Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix.) The Irish Cultural Center has a Friday concert every week with local bands, most are fairly traditional. (More info on each can be found at http://www.azirishmusic.com), and the ICC also has a ceili once or twice a month.

Let me know closer to when you might be in Phoenix, and I can help you out with places to go, directions, etc. (And, if you are going to be here before March 23, the Renaissance Faire is going on on the weekends as well.)

yes, greg, do find Jimmy Noonan. He’s got a darling boxwood Rudall (all keys are pewter plugs!) that he loves showing off.

too, seek out Shannon/Matt Heaton, both extremely fine players, shannon on flute. Very high-energy stuff and worth hearing and playing with.

Hey guys:

Thanks for all the tips on this. Good start for sure…I’ll have to work on the Helsinki bit though.

cheers.
