St. Patrick's Day in Boston: Whistle venues/concert question

Its been too long since I’ve gotten to hang out here and I’m afraid I haven’t touched my sizable whistle collection for some time now :frowning: However I’m trying to remedy that with a trip to Boston on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. I’m visiting a friend who’s been up there for forever and knows practically nothing about the huge Irish community in her city. So this is my chance to get her hooked

Anyway do any of you who are familiar with the Boston area know of good events/bars/music workshops worth trying out that would be a good experience for an Irish music newbie? I know about the Chieftains being in town but being from Texas I have little to no idea how to decipher the quality music events/places-to-be vs. the standard cookie cutter venue which is more cheesy than it is Irish. Thanks in advance!

I’m pretty sure the parade is Sunday afternoon.

more in the nature of sessions… The Burren in Somerville has a session on Sundays that’s fairly friendly.

for a listing of concerts (within 100 miles of Boston), check out the Music for Robin list: http://music-for-robin.org/100miles.htm

hope that helps!

cheers,
Sara

The Chieftains are performing Friday Night at Boston’s Symphony Hall, too.

Have fun in Boston.

Hey thanks for the input (especially the weblinks). This has given me a good idea about some cool places that I can add to my list
