Mars Over the Allalinhorn

It’s a better picture without the overexposed stuff at the bottom.

I respectfully disagree. It’s too tall to fit on
my monitor at once, so I didn’t see the bottom
until I scrolled down. I thought it was neat, I’m
looking at stars and silhouetted trees, then
suddenly there’s color and light.

I’d like to order a print, but allthesky.com does
not seem to have capitalized on that idea…

if you right click on the image is there a View Image option?

If so it will show the image sized to the real estate,
you can then click on it to see it “Full sized”

Yes, I used firefox to get it sized to the screen.
I was just talking about my initial impression
looking at it on the thread, which I preferred.

ah, I like being able to see the whole thing at once

Usually I do too. They’re 2 different user experiences
and this time I preferred the one that’s usually inferior.
Wattayagonnado?

I think if one were able to get a large print of it (say,
36 inches) you could have a similar experience, letting
your eyes focus only on the stars above, then lowering
your gaze to the well-lit mountain below. I can’t seem
to do that as well with the fit-to-window version (too
much peripheral vision), so in that case I’d agree with
s1m0n.

we could bat it back’n forth the rest of the day…

I’ve had a BENQ portrait-oriented monitor for years, and love it. These days my desktop is 1024 w x 1280 h. The pic’s 1536 high, so I didn’t get it all at once, but I got most of it, and liked it that way.

I’m more worried about the condition of some of those pines. Many appear to be defoliated. Not a good thing. What if you feel like a nut and there aren’t any? :astonished:

hmm, if you feel like a nut and there aren’t any, its quite a lonely existence, or a loony one. Probably both.

How come that Horn is all white? Do they illuminate it at night for the tourists, or aircraft security? Is it a special kind of glowing ice?

Oops

It’s a very long exposure taken ‘just after sunset’. As both the highest and most reflective (terrestial) object in the frame, the Allalinhorn caught the last of the sunlight.

uuuh, thanks! The sun!
I think I need another coffee.
And perhaps visit some mountains soon.

Alpenglow, yodelayheehoo!
