Mountains of Creation

What? Not the mountains of Intelligent Design?

Oops! Wrong forum!

Nope, it’s really something even more awesome than that.

You’re looking at a place where new stars are born.

Dust in the wind …

The most insteresting thing, to me, about this shot is the difference
between what is seen in the visible spectrum:

and the shot Denny posted, which is in the Infrared spectrum.

Here’s a the Infrared, with the visible as an inset:

Can you imagine what it was like to discover this?
“Nothing too interesting here, let’s switch over to infrar- Good grief!”

…the human perceptional range is quite small, isn’t it!

Sorry, but I just can’t see that.

This is about a guy who can sense magnetic fields. Read the text in the gray box.

I have a lot of trouble with the idea of body modification and implant artists and body art and things like that. I can deal with pierced ears and tattoos and the like, but that’s about it.

I don’t think my brain could handle much more sensory input than it already does. But other people might be able to handle more.

My brain perceives things that other people’s brains don’t. It’s not visual (like infrared), but it’s still frustrating sometimes.

I am able to detect the presense of twinkies no matter where I am.

Interestingly enough, it is much easier to detect twinkies that are a few decades old.

What’s weird for my brain is that I will perceive things that it seems like everybody else does but it turns out I’m usually the only one, or (worse) something is clear as day to most people but it takes me a long time to “get” it. The other day at lunch a lot of people were discussing the way the sun rises in the east, and I asked a question and they laughed and I felt stupid but I really didn’t know the answer. I forgot what it was about specifically, though.

I fear this happens a lot and people just don’t tell me, actually. It happens all the time with “subtle” things like sarcasm and things that people know in general but my brain just doesn’t “get” it right. Somebody told me I might have mild Autism once, but I don’t think so. My mind/brain is just weird. :poke:

Okay, I see the mountains, but where are the trees and the midget?

Billy was a mountain. Ethel was a tree growing out of his shoulder. “Oh, Ethel! There’s a Howard Johnson’s. Wanna eat some clams?”
